Lucknow Metro gifts free plant saplings to metro commuters on World Environment Day

LUCKNOW: On the occasion of the ‘World Environment Day’ 2018, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) gifted free plant ‘saplings’ to its Metro commuters to encourage people to plant more trees and spread an awareness about the same. The drive was held at four operational Metro stations namely Transport Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Alambagh Bus Stand and Charbagh Metro Stations.A variety of different flowers, neem, peepal, sheesham, arjuna etc. were distributed by LMRC officials at each of the mentioned Metro stations to the commuters to plant those in their residential premises, near their houses, offices, park, open spaces etc. to celebrate the Environment Day with an aim to keep this city green.The Environment Day campaign lead by Kumar Keshav, Managing Director included doing many green activities like planting of trees in the Transport Nagar Metro Depot; creating awareness about the environment safeguarding, theme based sketching competition for students, active participation from the commuters and workers, display of exhibition based on the green initiatives and environmental best practices followed at LMRC. “Our initiatives are for the betterment of this City. We promised environmental friendly mass transport and we’re striving to deliver the same,” said the Managing Director. “Every day should be a green day for us as our aim is to provide an environment friendly transport system to the citizens of Lucknow. We should inculcate this habit of cleanliness in our day to day life activity to ensure and retain world class cleanliness standards around our surroundings” he added. The Metro commuters were very excited and happy to receive these green gifts from Lucknow Metro on the World Environment Day, 2018. Few of the commuters had come at Metro Stations just to take free plant saplings being gifted to them today. All of them appreciated the efforts of Lucknow Metro for a greener cause of the city and wrote messages for Metro and the Environment on stickers and pasted them on white boards at all the Metro Stations.With this year’s theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, LMRC is celebrating the occasion as the ‘World Environment Week’ 2018 from 2nd June to 8th June. All the employees, officers, contractors and other people associated with the Lucknow Metro Project are participating in different green activities with great enthusiasm and positivity.Lucknow Metro observes the “World Environment Week” every year and these activities are the part of Lucknow Metro’s green initiatives for the city. LMRC is providing an environmental friendly Mass Rapid Transport for the public from the first day of its commercial operations. Lucknow Metro ensures that its every activity is an environmental friendly endeavour so as to keep the city clean, green and lively.
